PENNY WISE POUNDS FOOLISH
Recently I got talking with an MD of a renowned oil and gas company in Nigeria and he was full of regrets that he didn’t heed to my initial advice. What went wrong?
As they finalized their purchase of an Oil Block in Nigeria and got ready to mobilize their staff and equipment to sites, Revlyte simply gave an advice and offered to supply portacabins at the cheapest cost to facilitate quick partnership. But the entire effort was received with selfish motives. In the end, their senior management decided to rent some rooms in an expensive hotel for office accommodation in the closest town to their oil field.
Truly, it was initially planned to be a one-year arrangement but from my experience, with all the volatile and indeterminate character of the communities in Nigeria today, time schedule in project management needs divine intervention if they must be delivered on time. It was planned for one year, but it has gone far more than that today.
As of today, as against their initial one year plan, this is the third year in a hotel. Instead of N30m for the portacabins for the number of offices that should have being adequate (purchase and installation), over N200m has gone on hotel bills and the end is still not in focus. It is usually penny wise pound foolish to prefer hotel accommodation to portacabins especially where community behaviours cannot be guaranteed.
Portacabins are easy to install, quick to redeploy and were necessary fast to evacuate.
Where bombing and terrorist threats are high risk, bomb-proof portacabins are the best solutions. If you are dealing with an unstable government or client, why build solid block structures that you cannot evacuate? Use portacabins.
Revlyte understands your need and has many designs to meet your exact accommodation needs. Let’s discuss and share our experience. We can advise you better.
